Popular singer Billie Eilish has said that billionaires should be doing more for the world. She recently revealed that the world needs more wealthy people who are ready to do good things with their money.
Receiving the Music Innovator Award at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards, the 23-year-old took the opportunity to make her opinions heard during her acceptance speech.
According to her, the world is currently in a dark place, and there are more people who are in need of empathy to get by on a daily basis.
“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country.
I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it,” she said.
Billie further called out several people in the audience, stressing that billionaires should realize that there is a purpose for the massive wealth they have garnered.
The Grammy winner concluded by donating $11.5 million from her recent tour to support organizations, projects and voices dedicated to food equity, climate justice and decreasing carbon pollution and combating the climate crisis.
“Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me.
If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away, shorties,” she added.
The comment triggered laughter and clapping in the audience at the Museum of Modern Art, which consisted of billionaire Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, alongside celebrities like Hailey Bieber, Spike Lee, George Lucas, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Tory Burch, Questlove, Karlie Kloss and many more.
An eyewitness in the audience revealed that the Billionaire Facebook founder Zuckerberg did not clap along with the rest of the audience during Eilish’s speech.
