President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Kunle Elebute as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), reaffirming the administration’s commitment to strengthening corporate governance and promoting transparency in the country’s financial sector.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Elebute’s appointment is expected to bolster investor confidence and support ongoing efforts to enhance accountability and transparency within Nigeria’s financial reporting system.
A highly respected Chartered Accountant and financial management expert, Elebute brings more than 40 years of professional experience across Nigeria, West Africa, and international markets. Throughout his career, he has held several leadership positions, including Senior Partner and Chief Executive Officer of KPMG Nigeria, Chairman of KPMG West Africa, and Chairman of KPMG Africa. He also served on various regional and global KPMG boards, including the firm’s Global Board Audit Committee.

Renowned for his expertise in auditing, financial advisory services, risk management, corporate governance, and strategic transformation, Elebute has advised major organizations across sectors such as banking, infrastructure, healthcare, energy, consumer goods, and public administration.
He has also played an active role in shaping national economic and regulatory policies through participation in key public-sector committees, particularly those focused on banking reforms and corporate governance initiatives.
The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria is responsible for developing and enforcing standards relating to financial reporting, auditing, valuation, actuarial practice, and corporate governance. The council serves as a critical institution in safeguarding market integrity, protecting investors, and sustaining confidence in Nigeria’s economy.
Elebute assumes the role at a time when the FRCN is advancing major reforms aimed at aligning Nigeria’s corporate reporting framework with global best practices and strengthening international trade and investment partnerships.
The Federal Government expressed confidence that his extensive experience and leadership capabilities will enhance the council’s effectiveness and contribute to the administration’s goal of building a more transparent, competitive, and investment-friendly economy.
