President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, in a move aimed at boosting security and tackling rising criminal activities across the state.

The approval was announced in a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mashood AbdulRafiu Agboola.

According to the statement, the new military formation is expected to enhance security operations in areas affected by banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and other violent crimes by increasing the deployment of military personnel and operational assets.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the request, describing the decision as another demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving security in Kwara State.

He also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the swift processing of the state’s request for an expanded military presence.

The governor said the battalion would significantly improve the capacity of security agencies to respond to emerging threats and strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across the state.

“On behalf of the people and government of Kwara State, I sincerely thank Mr. President for fulfilling yet another promise to our state. We are confident that the new battalion will greatly enhance efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping in affected communities,” the statement quoted him as saying.

AbdulRazaq also acknowledged the continued support of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies working to restore peace and maintain law and order.
