President Bola Tinubu on Thursday officially inaugurated former Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, urging him to leverage his military expertise to bolster the country’s security framework.
The ceremony, conducted at the State House in Abuja, followed swiftly after Musa’s Senate confirmation, which came just two days after his nomination.
President Tinubu characterised the appointment as a calculated move designed to build upon recent security achievements and enhance coordination throughout Nigeria’s Armed Forces.
During the event, the President tasked the new minister with fostering unity among military branches, fast-tracking defence sector reforms, ensuring procurement transparency, and strengthening collaboration between security agencies.
Tinubu also stressed the importance of improving conditions for service members and maintaining the momentum of ongoing joint military operations across the nation.
Following his oath of office, Minister Musa committed himself fully to realising the President’s goal of achieving a more secure and stable Nigeria.
He promised to modernise the country’s defence systems, strengthen security alliances both regionally and internationally, and boost operational effectiveness within the military.
“We will not relent. We will sustain the pressure on the enemies of the state and ensure that peace returns to every community,” Musa declared.
The new Defence Minister outlined his priorities, which include elevating troop morale, implementing intelligence-led operations, and partnering with local communities to deliver better security results nationwide.
