Popoola Olasupo, an officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), has been abducted at the Fidiwo axis on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

According to Applesbite, Olasupo was kidnapped around 6:30 am on Sunday while heading to his duty post.

Witnesses said the attackers suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on a commercial bus that the TRACE officer was in.

No other passenger was reportedly kidnapped, aside from Olasupo.

Confirming the incident, Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson of the Ogun police command, said the anti-kidnapping squad of the force is on the trail of the kidnappers.

“Our anti-kidnapping squad is already after them, we are combing the forests and we know that they will all be arrested,” he said.

“Ogun state is not a ground for criminals to settle. It is either they leave or we smoke them out of this state.”

The incident comes a few weeks after Oduneye Olusegun, a journalist, was abducted at the Ijebu-Ode area of the state.

The kidnappers were said to have demanded N30 million ransom from the family of the victim.

A couple of days later, the journalist was rescued after police officers traced his car to the Idimu area of Lagos.

The rescue party was said to have engaged in a 45-minute gun battle with the abductors before Olusegun was freed and one of the suspects arrested.
