Nigerian Army troops under Operation Hadin Kai have destroyed a suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP hideout in the Kopre Mountain area of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of Wednesday, was carried out jointly with the Tactical Team of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) following intelligence on terrorist activities in the mountainous area.
The troops reportedly engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters during the operation, killing more than 21 insurgents. Several others, said to have sustained gunshot wounds, escaped into the surrounding terrain.
The military also disclosed that the troops destroyed the terrorists’ logistics facilities and recovered a number of weapons and ammunition.
Among the items recovered were AK-47 rifles, magazines and a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition. Security forces also destroyed motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which were allegedly being used as part of the terrorists’ logistics network.
Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North-East, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the operation was also aimed at locating and rescuing persons abducted around the Mussa and Lassa axes.
According to him, troops would continue searching the area until the abducted victims are located and brought to safety.
Goni said the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, remained committed to intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling terrorist camps, disrupting their logistics networks and weakening their operational capabilities.
He added that search-and-rescue efforts had been intensified as troops continued to comb the area for the abducted persons.
The military command commended the soldiers and members of the ONSA Tactical Team for their coordination, courage and professionalism during the operation.
The command said the operation demonstrated the ability of Nigerian security forces to conduct offensive operations in difficult and mountainous terrain while restricting the movement and activities of terrorist groups.
It added that operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP in the North-East would continue, with troops sustaining intelligence-driven missions to destroy terrorist strongholds, disrupt logistics and degrade their fighting capacity.
