United States President Donald Trump has appointed Washington-based lobbyist Dr. Karl Von Batten as a commissioner on a presidential commission at the White House.
Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., where Von Batten serves as managing partner, announced the appointment on Thursday through its official X account.
The firm described the appointment as a major honour for Von Batten, saying he was grateful for the opportunity to serve the United States under President Trump.
According to the firm, Von Batten expressed appreciation to Trump for the confidence placed in him and said he was prepared to respond to the call to serve the president and the country.
The appointment has attracted attention in Nigeria because Von Batten previously worked with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Atiku’s campaign engaged Von Batten-Montague-York in March 2026 to provide lobbying and public affairs services in Washington, D.C.
The agreement reportedly covered a 12-month period and was valued at approximately $1.2 million.
The latest appointment therefore places Von Batten in a new role within a White House presidential commission, months after his firm secured the lobbying contract with Atiku.
