Turkey has expressed solidarity with Nigeria following a devastating terrorist assault in Kwara State that claimed 75 lives earlier this week.
The attack occurred Tuesday in the Worro and Nuku communities of Kaiama Local Government Area, where suspected terrorists targeted residents predominantly Muslims who had reportedly refused to accept what witnesses described as an unfamiliar Islamic ideology being promoted by the attackers.
Rauf Ajakaye, chief press secretary to Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed the death toll to TheCable.
In response to the massacre, President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday authorized the immediate deployment of an army battalion to the affected area. The president condemned the perpetrators as “heartless for choosing soft targets in their doomed campaign of terror.”
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement Thursday expressing profound grief over the tragedy.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives caused by the terrorist attack,” the ministry said. “We strongly condemn this heinous attack and extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to the people of Nigeria.”
Turkey reaffirmed its commitment to assisting Nigeria in combating terrorism, stating that “Türkiye will continue to support Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.”
The pledge comes just days after President Tinubu concluded a state visit to Turkey, during which both nations signed nine bilateral agreements aimed at deepening cooperation. Among these was a defense cooperation pact, underscoring both countries’ commitment to security collaboration.
