The UBA Foundation has announced the commencement of its 15th annual National Essay Competition (NEC), inviting senior secondary school students across Nigeria to compete for significant educational grants.
This year’s theme challenges students to answer: “Nigeria is characterised by diverse cultures, ethnicities, and religions. How can young Nigerians deploy diversity to build a united nation?” The topic is designed to spur critical thinking on using Nigeria’s diversity as a tool for unity and development.
In a major update, the foundation has increased its cash prizes for university grants. The 2025 winners will receive:
- 1st Place: N10 million (increased from N7.5m in 2024)
- 2nd Place: N7.5 million (increased from N5m)
- 3rd Place: N5 million (increased from N3.5m)
The grants are for study at any African university of the winner’s choice.
Mrs. Bola Atta, Managing Director/CEO of UBA Foundation, emphasised the initiative’s importance: “This year’s topic tasks our youth to look at our country’s greatest asset—our diversity—and devise ways to leverage it for unity and growth. We believe young minds hold the key to a more harmonious and prosperous Nigeria.”
