The University of Ibadan (UI) has introduced new guidelines for graduates collecting Statements of Result and certificates, including penalties for delayed collection.
According to a special bulletin issued by the university on September 15, 2026, graduates are required to collect their Statements of Result within six months after being notified that the documents are ready.
The bulletin, signed by the Registrar, Ganiyu Saliu, stated that graduates who fail to collect their Statements of Result within the stipulated six-month period would pay a non-collection penalty of N2,500 before the document could be released.
The university explained that Statements of Result would remain valid for two years from the date of issuance and would serve as an interim document pending the collection of the graduate’s certificate.
It stressed that the certificate remained the university’s official and permanent evidence of a graduate’s qualification.
Under the new guidelines, graduates are expected to collect their certificates within the two-year validity period of their Statements of Result.
UI further stated that certificates would be available for collection from the date of convocation until one year after the ceremony.
During this initial one-year period, graduates would pay a statutory fee of N7,500 for certificate issuance and collection.
However, additional penalties would apply to certificates collected after the first year.
Certificates collected after one year but within five years would attract a N25,000 non-collection penalty, while those collected after five years but within 10 years would attract a N50,000 penalty.
The university warned that certificates that remained uncollected for more than 10 years would be liable to shredding.
It clarified that the non-collection penalties were separate from the N7,500 statutory fee for certificate issuance and collection.
The institution urged graduates and other concerned stakeholders to take note of the new requirements and ensure compliance with the guidelines.
