Wema Bank is launching an upgraded version of ALAT, Africa’s first fully digital bank, in January 2026. The new platform, called ALAT: The Evolution, promises a more intuitive and personalized banking experience.
The upgrade introduces several enhancements, including faster transaction processing, improved user interface, and SAW (Smart ALAT by Wema)—an AI assistant integrated into the app. These features aim to make digital banking more responsive to individual user needs.
Since its 2017 launch, ALAT has transformed digital banking across Africa, serving millions of customers. The upcoming evolution builds on this foundation while incorporating modern technology to enhance the user experience.
The January 2026 rollout marks Wema Bank’s continued commitment to innovation in Nigeria’s banking sector.
