Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has decided to put his personal interest and pride aside to restore peace in the state.
He recently confirmed that reconciliation efforts are ongoing to deliver democratic stability across Rivers State.
Speaking via a statement by his chief press secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara declared that the current problems will be rectified very soon, and government workers who have been rendered jobless since his suspension would be able to return to their offices.
Emphasising that the division in Rivers is set to become a thing of the past, he revealed that working in unity for the progress of the state will be the ultimate goal henceforth.
Siminalayi said that the process to deliver lasting peace is already in motion, stressing that the forgiving spirit everyone concerned has shown is to thank for that.
“I want to assure you that the issues will soon be resolved, and you will come back to your offices. Not just at the executive arm, but also the legislative arm.
And I also believe that the strong relationships we had before will return and we will begin to work together again for the good and progress of the state. What is important is for us to have a forgiving spirit. We are already in the peace process,” he said.
Fubara then appreciated President Tinubu for his prompt intervention during the political dispute in the South-South region.
According to him, the President deserves a lot of praise for stepping in at the right moment during the crisis, because if he hadn’t intervened at the time, the matter could’ve easily escalated beyond control.
He noted that it is now time for the aggrieved parties to come down from their high horses and focus on moving the state forward.
“I don’t know how he [Tinubu] gets his information, but the truth is that he acted wisely at the right time.
He is the one you should thank. And let me also thank him personally for his intervention and the personalities across the country who moved in and appealed to him to intervene.
We have to come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process. And that is what we are doing.
What is important is for the state to move forward. It is not about you — the state’s interest is paramount” Fubara said.
The suspended Governor concluded by saying that there will be peace between himself and Wike because there is really no reason for their war to continue.
“There is no reason why there will not be peace between me and my Oga. There will be peace. We are meeting. We will reconcile,” he added.
