The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that he advised Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to personally contact President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and present his Certificate of Return following his victory in the governorship election.
Wike made this known on Wednesday during a media parley with selected journalists in Rivers State.
According to the FCT Minister, he also advised Adeleke to publicly appreciate President Tinubu after the election.
“I told Adeleke to call Mr President and go and present his Certificate of Return to him. I also told him to make a press statement thanking Mr President after the Osun election,” Wike said.
Adeleke emerged victorious in the Osun governorship election after securing 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Following his victory, Adeleke received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and subsequently presented it to President Tinubu while expressing appreciation to him.
Wike’s disclosure comes amid Adeleke’s recent comments about his relationship with President Tinubu and his political commitment ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Osun governor had earlier maintained that his pledge to deliver the state’s votes to Tinubu was genuine.
Speaking on Sunday while receiving a visit from APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, Adeleke said he does not make promises he has no intention of keeping.
The governor described Tinubu as his “dear father” and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Osun State supports the President in the forthcoming election.
“I don’t make empty promises. When I said we will deliver Osun State votes to our dear father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I mean it 100 per cent,” Adeleke stated.
He also called for unity among the people of Osun, stressing that political differences should not prevent the people from working together.
Adeleke added that integrity should remain an important principle in political engagement.
