Popular singer Seun Kuti has said that many Yoruba kings do not believe in Yoruba gods.
He recently called out the majority of Odududuwa monarchs, and fans have been reacting.
Speaking via his social media page, the musician said that these kings are actually a mockery of whatever Yorubaland stands for.
The activist revealed that being Yoruba is not a festival, stressing that he has never understood the need to organize any form of fanfare amid the lingering misery in Yorubaland.
Describing such gatherings as ignorant, Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s son noted that celebrating festivals in the face of poverty only papers over the cracks.
“90 percent of Yoruba kings don’t believe in Yoruba gods yet they sit on Yoruba thrones and make a mockery of what it means to be Yoruba.
Fanfare in the midst of misery, Joy in the face of poverty And glamor in the presence of ignorance.
Being Yoruba is not a festival!” he wrote.
He further emphasised that a benevolent king is nothing but a dictator who is trying to cover his crimes.
“There is no bigger criminal than the benevolent king/dictator,” he added.
Seun’s post is coming on the heels of the Ojude Oba festival.
