Popular rapper Odumodublvck has spoken about Nigeria’s political system and how it affects the people. He recently opened up about the struggles of Black people in America, and fans have been reacting.
Speaking in an interview with BET, Odumodu blasted Nigerians who constantly blame the President for every national problem they face.
According to him, rather than focus on attacking President Tinubu whenever they encounter a challenge, the people should concentrate on calling out local government and state officials who fail to do the jobs they are elected for.
He stated that the local government, senators and councillors are directly in charge of the affairs of citizens; therefore, they must be held accountable at all times.
“You have a local government, you have your councillor, you have your senator, the guys that are directly in charge of you, but when anything happens, they say ‘ah, Tinubu’. You’re a small fish to the president.
The guy that is supposed to take care of you is the one opposite you. But that’s what you get when you use that kind of policy to govern a people – when everybody’s sovereignty is in the hands of one man,” he said.
On politics, Odumodublvck noted that concentrating power in one person automatically creates a system vulnerable to manipulation and corruption.
The lyricist concluded by saying that democracy is weakened when sovereignty is in the hands of one man.
“If he’s a good man, they can take away your liberty by threatening him. What if he’s a man who waited 20 years for a child, becomes a governor, and they tell him, ‘If you don’t do this corruption, we’ll harm your daughter’? Even if he wants to help the people, he doesn’t have a choice.
If the sovereignty is in the hand of one man, there’s a problem. I’ve said what I need to say.
We cannot deny that America is now a better place for Black people. Black people have suffered in America, yes, but it’s time to step away from the victim mentality. We now have Black-owned businesses, a former Black president, people doing well in sports – now is the time to fly,” he added.
