The Zamfara State Scholarship Board has secured executive approval for the sponsorship of 25 indigenes of Zamfara State admitted into the Nigerian Law School for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The initiative, approved by the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, will cover the full registration fees of the beneficiaries as part of the state government’s effort to promote access to quality legal education and support aspiring legal practitioners.
According to the Scholarship Board, the sponsorship is aimed at removing financial barriers that could hinder students from completing the mandatory professional training required to practise law in Nigeria. By covering the registration costs, the government hopes to enable the beneficiaries to focus fully on their studies and professional development.
Officials said the programme reflects the administration’s commitment to investing in human capital and strengthening the legal profession in the state. The government believes that producing well-trained legal practitioners will contribute to good governance, social justice, and overall development in Zamfara.
A spokesperson for the board noted that the initiative represents more than financial support, describing it as a strategic investment in the state’s intellectual and professional capacity.
The beneficiaries were selected through a transparent screening process based on merit and fairness, with consideration given to students from different parts of the state, including those from underserved communities.
The students are expected to attend Law School campuses across the country, including Abuja, Enugu, and Bayelsa, where they will undergo the compulsory training required before being called to the Nigerian Bar.
The sponsorship forms part of a broader education reform agenda of the Lawal administration aimed at strengthening the state’s education sector and creating opportunities for young people to excel professionally. Government officials say the programme demonstrates Zamfara’s commitment to supporting its students and building a skilled workforce for the future.
