Dauda Lawal, the Governor of Zamfara State, has directed members of the State Executive Council and other political appointees planning to contest in the 2027 general elections to step down from their positions.
The directive was announced on Monday during the 64th State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the decision aligns with provisions of the Electoral Act and the official timetable for the 2027 elections.
All affected officials have been given a deadline of March 31, 2026, to tender their resignations.
“The governor has instructed the Secretary to the State Government to circulate this directive to all political appointees seeking elective offices, mandating them to resign before the stipulated deadline,” the statement said.
It added that the Head of Service has also been tasked with extending the directive to civil servants intending to participate in the elections.
Governor Lawal reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, good governance, and sustained development across Zamfara State.
