The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard at her home in Owode-Egba, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. Parading the suspects at the state police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta on Wednesday, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said the principal suspect confessed that the killings were meant to "teach her a lesson" over poor pay. Ojajuni said a report was received at Owode-Egba Police Station on June 21, 2026, after neighbours noticed the front door of Oyesiku's residence had been partially damaged and the security post locked. Officers who responded found Oyesiku lying in a pool of blood in her living room, while her guard, Pelumi Adetayo, 38, was discovered dead inside the security house. A Lexus RX 330 vehicle belonging to the deceased was also missing from the compound. Through intelligence gathering and technical tracking, operatives recovered the vehicle on June 22 at the Onikolobo area of Ogun State. The ignition key had been removed and the number plates detached, but detectives found the registration plate hidden under one of the seats, confirming the vehicle as Oyesiku's property. A handwritten note recovered from the crime scene was subjected to forensic analysis, generating leads that helped trace the suspects. The principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer. Subsequent operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer. During interrogation, Philip allegedly admitted to planning and coordinating the attack after accumulating grievances while working as a security guard in Oyesiku's employment. He told investigators that the killings were motivated by her low salary and her refusal to give him money on demand. He further stated that he recruited Ayoola and Obafunsho to carry out the attack on June 20, 2026. According to police, the suspects first overpowered Adetayo and used him to gain entry into the residence before attacking Oyesiku. A broken hammer, cutlass, plank, and black pen were recovered as exhibits. Ojajuni said investigation is ongoing and that all suspects would be charged in court.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has urged people in the South-East not to join the festering protests by Nigerians against the current economic hardship in the country under the government of President Bola Tinubu.

The separatist group warned that such protests must not take place in the southeastern states because Igbo had long lost interest in Nigeria and were only waiting for an opportunity to leave.

The group made the claim in a statement on Tuesday by its spokesman, Emma Powerful.

Powerful warned that anyone who organised any protest against economic hardship in the South-East would put Ndigbo in danger.

The country has in recent times witnessed increasing agitation and protests over the rising cost of living and skyrocketing prices of foodstuffs.

However, the apex socio-cultural Igbo organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Monday, called on the Igbo people not to join any such protests against the Tinubu-led Federal Government.

Ohanaeze urged Nigerians to exercise patience with Tinubu.

In a statement on Tuesday, IPOB spokesman “cautions the people of Biafra not to join any protest against hunger in Nigeria in any South-East territory.”

Powerful said, “The current hardship in Nigeria should be the concern of Nigerians, not Biafrans. Biafrans are no longer interested in the affairs of Nigeria. Biafrans were abused, intimidated, beaten, killed and denied voting rights during the election of this present government. Ndigbo were told to wait, that it was not their turn to rule.

“Anyone who organises any protest against economic hardship in Biafraland will put Biafrans in danger. During the #EndSARS protest, the Federal Government accused Ndigbo of attempting to destroy Nigeria with violence. We don’t want such profiling and targeting to repeat because of Ndigbo’s participation in any Nigerian mass protest.

“Ndigbo should leave the current economic hardship in the contraption called Nigeria for Nigerians to deal with because this hardship is what God Almighty has in store for Nigeria for the crimes they have committed against Biafrans between 1967 to 1970 and up to date.

“We understand that Ndigbo are equally affected by the economic hardship arising from the reckless and thoughtless economic policies of the government, but God is still seeing Biafrans through. We are worried about the suffering of other tribes, but there is nothing we can do. The current situation is why Biafrans are fighting for freedom. Nevertheless, we must apply wisdom.”

The group further said anyone or group that wants to organise a protest for Nigeria’s hardship should kindly go to the northern or western part of the country and stage such protests there.

“Our region is battling the state-sponsored insecurity, kidnappings, and killings by the Federal Government’s agencies and agents, including terrorists. We have much on our hands to do. We will not allow anyone or any group to use the arrangement of protests to import more agents of destabilisation into our territory,” it said.
