Media personality Yeni Kuti and PDP chieftain Segun Sowunmi were involved in a tense moment during a live broadcast of Your View on TVC on Tuesday.
Sowunmi appeared on the morning talk show to discuss his controversial visit to President Bola Tinubu during the recent Sallah celebrations.
The PDP member, who has been vocally critical of the APC-led government, surprised many Nigerians when photos surfaced of him visiting Tinubu at his Lagos residence over the weekend.
The visit has fuelled speculation that Sowunmi may be planning to defect to the APC.
Yeni Kuti, one of the co-hosts of the programme, asked the question many Nigerians had been discussing online, “You had a lot of criticism for the President. Now your tune seems to have changed. So, when is your own move? When are you leaving PDP to APC?”
The question appeared to irritate Sowunmi, who snapped back, “Although I can’t see who is asking that question. I didn’t come to your programme, so you can try to be cheeky with me. Stop that!”
Unfazed, Yeni Kuti responded that she couldn’t be cheeky with him as she was older than him.
When Sowunmi realised it was Yeni speaking, he quickly softened his tone, saying, “Oh sister ooo! My Aunty! I take that back. Please do not be angry.”
The exchange quickly went viral, with many Nigerians reacting to the moment online.
One Instagram user wrote, “U see how the name ring bell ,,,,, legacy.”
Another added, “This made me believe the adage that says ‘Good name is better than good & silver’… He wanted to smoke that woman before but when he heard the name KUTI he calm down and give respect ”
A third simply wrote, “I love her ,” while others responded with strings of laughing emojis.
Yeni Kuti is the eldest daughter of legendary Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and a prominent custodian of the Kuti family’s cultural legacy.
