The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that it remains strong and united despite ongoing reports of planned defections by some of its governors. The party recently revealed that its foundation is solidly rooted in the people and not in individual ambitions.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary and Secretary of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee for the party’s 2025 National Convention, Debo Ologunagba, said that the party will not be distracted by the “orchestrated defections” by the APC.
According to him, the attention generated by the reports of defections from the PDP shows the increasing national interest in the Peoples Democratic Party and its activities ahead of the convention.
He stated that the party’s institutional strength and democratic ideals will continue to sustain it through whatever storm may be ahead.
“Let me say this; the stories of defection or possible defection that are catching Nigerians’ attention show that we have a political master.
Because of the foundation of the PDP that is strong, solid, and based on the people, we remain the only truly democratic party in this country, one built on ideas, convictions, and policies,” he said.
Recalling that even presidents and vice-presidents have had to leave the PDP in the past, Debo noted that the party still managed to endure such defections because it was founded on values, not personalities.
He concluded by informing Nigerians that politicians will come and go, but the PDP will always remain strong.
“It’s on record that vice-presidents and presidents have left this party before, but the PDP remains.
That’s the message to Nigerians; that this is an institution built on ideals rooted in the people,” he added.
