The Minister of Information Mohammed Idris has said that President Bola Tinubu is very saddened by the recent killings and abductions of students. He recently revealed that BAT is not happy about the security crisis in the country.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he shared that Tinubu worked on rejigging his security forces in a bid to tackle the insecurity issues across the nation.
According to him, President Tinubu has always taken the protection of lives and property seriously in Nigeria, hence his decision to work on improving security across the nation even before Trump issued threats against a perceived Christian genocide in Nigeria.
Idris stated that a government must always guarantee the protection of its citizens; therefore, the current situation is a cause of concern.
“It’s a very sad thing; the president is really saddened about it. That is why, even before this designation of President Trump that this nation is a nation of Particular Concern, even before the threats issued by President Trump, recall that the president has re-jigged the security forces.
These are really sad times for our country.
The highest duty of any government is to ensure the protection of lives and duties. Whoever the person might be, it’s not good for our country. No one should be happy that anybody is losing their lives for no just reason,” he said.
Idris further noted that the fight against insurgency and terrorism in Nigeria has gone on for far too long.
He concluded by saying that diplomatic channels have been opened between Nigeria and the United States to address the growing wave of insecurity in the country.
“The second thing is that it is important to note that the complexities and dynamics playing out in this country are not simple ones. We have situations where jihadist extremists are coming out of the northeastern part of the country,” he added.
