The immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has said his engagement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was successful. Recall that Malami was recently invited by the EFCC, an invitation he vowed to honour out of respect for accountability and transparency.
In a new post on his X handle on Saturday, Malami revealed that he had been released after an interrogation.
According to him, he expects the truth behind the fabricated allegations against him to keep unfolding in the coming weeks.
He stated that EFCC scheduled another appointment for further engagement on the accusations levelled against him.
“In line with my undertaking to keep Nigerians updated on my invitation by EFCC, I give glory to Allah for His divine intervention.
The engagement was successful and I am eventually released, while on an appointment for further engagement, as the truth relating to the fabricated allegations against me continues to unfold,” he wrote.
Recall that Malami served as Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
His tenure featured various high-profile legal battles, including asset recovery initiatives, anti-corruption reforms, and numerous government decisions that drew both national and international attention.
In the later years of his tenure, Malami faced public scrutiny over issues relating to asset declarations, contract approvals, and the management of recovered funds.
However, as of today, Malami has passionately denied all of these allegations.
