A resident of Ogun State, Abbass Ogunnaike, is receiving treatment at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) following an alleged assault on Wednesday night by individuals said to be connected to a political group in the state.
Sources familiar with the matter indicate that Ogunnaike was attacked following a political disagreement. The assailants are alleged to be members of a group with ties to Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, though this has not been independently verified.
On Thursday, representatives from the governor’s office reportedly invited the parties involved to Abeokuta to discuss possible compensation for the incident.
Ogunnaike remains under medical care at OOUTH. The full extent of his injuries has not been publicly disclosed.
The incident has drawn attention to persistent concerns about political violence in Ogun State, particularly as political tensions rise in the lead-up to future electoral contests.
As of this report, the Ogun State Government has not released an official statement addressing the allegations, and it is unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection with the assault.
Updates are expected as the situation develops and Ogunnaike’s condition continues to be monitored.
