Kano State has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment venues across the state as the holy month of Ramadan commences, with the ban taking effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
The Kano State Censorship Board issued the directive, which covers event centres — locally known as gala houses — as well as Disc Jockey operators. The board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, announced the measure in an official statement.
Authorities say the shutdown is intended to give residents a calm and distraction-free environment in which to observe their fast and engage in religious activities throughout the month.
The closure will remain in place for the entire fasting period. The board noted that a reopening date, particularly in anticipation of Eid celebrations, will be communicated at the appropriate time.
All stakeholders have been urged to cooperate fully and comply with the directive in line with the legislation governing the agency. The board described the measure as part of its core mandate to enforce regulations around entertainment activities in the state.
In closing, the board extended warm wishes to residents, praying for a peaceful, healthy, and blessed Ramadan for all.
