A deeply emotional scene unfolded at Daystar Christian Centre on Sunday as Co-Senior Pastor Nike Adeyemi broke down in tears while praying for one of the church’s longest-serving pastors, Boye Oloyede, and his wife Tiwa, who are departing to pursue their own leadership consulting ministry full time.
The second service of the day was largely set aside to honour the couple’s transition, with the congregation joining in prayer for their journey ahead.
Oloyede’s story at Daystar is one of deep personal and professional roots. He first joined the church as a member in 1999 and went on to serve as Personal Assistant to Senior Pastor Sam Adeyemi, eventually rising to become the most senior pastor in the church’s leadership structure after the Co-Senior Pastors themselves.
His ties to the Adeyemi family run even deeper. His wife, Tiwa — born Tiwa Adeyemi — is the younger sister of Pastor Sam Adeyemi. The two met while Oloyede was serving as Sam’s assistant, at a time when Tiwa was living with the Adeyemi household. Pastor Sam and Pastor Nike presided over their wedding.
It was that layered history — decades of ministry, family bonds, and shared sacrifice — that made Sunday’s farewell so charged with emotion. When it was Pastor Nike’s turn to pray for the departing couple, she wept openly.
Both Pastor Sam and Pastor Nike prayed for the Oloyedes’ success, the fulfilment of their vision, and the wellbeing of their children as the couple steps into this new chapter.
