A political strategist and Group Chief Executive Officer of Global Investment and Trade Company, Baba Yusuf, has sounded a stark warning over Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation, cautioning that bandits could eventually find their way into the Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives if urgent action is not taken.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Yusuf lamented that insecurity, particularly in northern Nigeria, has escalated to the point where some communities now pay levies to bandits and even seek their intervention in dispute resolution.

He decried what he described as a troubling trend where violent groups operate with increasing boldness, attacking communities, killing citizens and security personnel, and openly challenging state authority. According to him, terrorists now move freely, sometimes disguised in military uniforms, and even engage in negotiations with government representatives without facing consequences.

Yusuf referenced a recent assurance by Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a visit to Plateau State, where the president vowed that attacks would not recur. However, he noted that another нападение occurred shortly afterward, raising concerns about the effectiveness of current security measures.

He further warned that insurgents are expanding their reach into previously unaffected areas, including Niger and Kwara states, as well as parts of Benue and Plateau. He described the situation as an “existential threat,” stressing that both the ruling party and opposition must move beyond political rhetoric and collaborate to address the crisis.

Yusuf also highlighted reports of bandits overrunning military formations, killing senior officers, and issuing advance warnings of attacks without fear. He expressed concern that continued inaction could normalize their influence, as some citizens increasingly rely on them for protection and conflict resolution.

“If this trend continues,” he cautioned, “it may not be long before these groups gain enough influence to penetrate formal political structures, including the National Assembly.”
