A large crowd of supporters thronged Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of a major national summit involving opposition parties.
The gathering is expected to bring together prominent political figures, including former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. The event is being hosted by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Atiku, who is among those seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress for the 2027 elections, shared footage of his arrival via his X (formerly Twitter) account. The video captured enthusiastic supporters singing and cheering as they welcomed him at the airport.
In a brief message accompanying the clip, he confirmed his arrival in Ibadan for the opposition summit.
Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress is attempting to disrupt the meeting.
In a statement released on Saturday, Abdullahi claimed that after facing challenges securing venues in Abuja, the coalition is now encountering similar obstacles in Ibadan. He described the situation as part of a broader pattern of interference aimed at undermining opposition activities.
He also accused the ruling party of contradiction, arguing that despite publicly downplaying any threat from the opposition, its actions suggest otherwise.
Despite these concerns, Abdullahi affirmed that the summit will proceed as planned.
