President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Before her elevation, Odumegwu-Ojukwu served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, bringing prior experience within the ministry to her new role.
In a related move, President Tinubu has nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending confirmation by the Senate. Until his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
A career diplomat from Kogi State, Enikanolaiye has over 30 years of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service. His record includes serving as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and holding diplomatic postings in cities such as Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
According to the presidency, the appointments are part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, enhance diplomatic engagement, and build stronger international partnerships.
The President congratulated the appointees and urged them to advance Nigeria’s national interests, promote economic diplomacy, support regional stability, and protect the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
