An Abuja-based lawyer and a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who were abducted by gunmen have regained their freedom after days in captivity.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped along a major route in the Federal Capital Territory, sparking fear among residents and renewed concerns over insecurity in and around Abuja. Their release was confirmed by family members and security sources on Sunday, although details surrounding the circumstances of their freedom remain unclear.
Sources disclosed that the lawyer and the corps member were taken hostage by heavily armed kidnappers who intercepted their vehicle while they were travelling. Following the abduction, relatives and associates reportedly made frantic efforts to secure their release as security operatives intensified search operations in nearby forests and surrounding communities.
It was gathered that the victims have since reunited with their families and are currently receiving medical attention after enduring traumatic experiences during their captivity.
Authorities have yet to officially disclose whether any ransom was paid before the victims were freed. Security agencies also have not announced any arrests connected to the incident.
The development has once again highlighted the growing threat of kidnapping in the nation’s capital and neighbouring states, with residents calling on the government and security agencies to strengthen surveillance and improve safety across major roads and communities.
Meanwhile, friends and relatives of the freed victims have expressed gratitude over their safe return, describing the development as a huge relief after days of anxiety and uncertainty.
