A United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has urged the administration of President Donald Trump to take stronger action aimed at protecting Christians in Nigeria, following recent violent attacks in parts of the country.
Moore made the appeal while reacting to killings reported in Plateau State, claiming that Christian communities in Nigeria’s Middle Belt were being repeatedly targeted in coordinated attacks.
He called for what he described as “forceful action” from the US government, alleging that earlier warnings about impending attacks were not acted upon by Nigerian authorities.
According to him, “enough is enough,” as he accused armed groups he described as “radical Islamic terrorists” of carrying out repeated assaults, including an attack on mourners gathered for a burial ceremony.
Moore further alleged that victims were Christians killed during a mass burial for those previously affected by violence, describing the situation as a failure of Nigerian authorities to prevent recurring attacks despite intelligence alerts.
He also referenced the US government’s counterterrorism priorities, noting that protecting Christians in Nigeria had been highlighted in recent strategic discussions, and urged Washington to intensify its involvement in addressing insecurity in the region.
The congressman described the violence as an “ongoing crisis” in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and renewed his call for stronger international attention to the situation.
