At the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu Ode, Senator Gbenga Daniel received a rousing and spontaneous reception from thousands of sons and daughters of Ijebuland, as chants, applause and cheers filled the pavilion in a rare show of collective admiration.
The atmosphere at the festival, held in Ogun State, turned electric as the senator arrived at the Ojude Oba grounds. Supporters rose to their feet, chanting “OGD!” in unison, in a moment that briefly transformed the cultural gathering into a celebration of political goodwill and personal connection.
Observers said the reception reflected Daniel’s sustained influence in Ogun East Senatorial District, where he currently serves in the National Assembly. Many attendees described the ovation as a public expression of appreciation for his legislative work and constituency projects rather than a staged political display.
Tributes also poured in from community leaders at the event, including Iyalode Afolashade Kasali, who praised the senator’s humility, accessibility and service record, describing him as a leader whose contributions continue to inspire confidence across Ijebuland.
Since joining the Senate, Daniel has built a reputation as an active lawmaker, sponsoring multiple bills and advancing motions on development, education, healthcare and governance reforms. His legislative push includes backing for the establishment of new institutions such as a proposed federal medical centre in Ijebu Ode and initiatives linked to higher education development in the region.
One of his most notable policy achievements is the South-West Development Commission framework, a major regional intervention initiative aimed at boosting infrastructure development, coordinating federal projects and addressing environmental challenges across the South-West. The legislation is widely regarded as a significant milestone for regional planning.
Beyond legislation, constituents pointed to visible infrastructure projects across communities in Ogun East, including road rehabilitation, rural electrification, solar street lighting and community support programmes facilitated through the Gateway Front Foundation.
Supporters at the festival also referenced his empowerment initiatives for traders and medical outreach programmes that have reached thousands of residents across rural and urban communities.
For many at the Ojude Oba celebration, the loud ovation was a reflection of what they described as tangible representation and consistent engagement with constituents. The sentiment on ground suggested that the senator’s presence at the festival symbolised more than political status, but a deeper connection with cultural identity and community expectations.
As festivities continued in Ijebu Ode, the reception underscored Daniel’s enduring political relevance in Ogun East, where he remains a dominant figure in both governance and grassroots politics.
