Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have successfully rescued seven travellers who were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Riyom highway in Plateau State.
According to security sources, the operation was launched after troops received a distress call at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday near Sopp village in Riyom Local Government Area. The sources, who spoke anonymously because they were not authorised to brief the media, said soldiers attached to Sector 6 of Operation Enduring Peace responded swiftly to the emergency.
On arrival, the troops discovered a blue Opel Vectra abandoned in the middle of the road with no occupants, prompting an immediate search of the surrounding bushes.
During the rescue mission, the soldiers reportedly engaged the suspected kidnappers, who fled into the bush under sustained military pressure, abandoning their captives.
The rescued victims were identified as ASP Babagida Ishaku, Auwulu Haruna, Dung Jerry Dang, Anas Idris, Hussaini Mohammed, Idris Abdullahi, and Mrs. Kangyang Sunday.
The victims told the troops they had boarded the vehicle in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, and were travelling to Jos when armed men intercepted and abducted them.
All seven victims were rescued unharmed, while security operatives have intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The sources added that troops of Operation Enduring Peace have continued regular patrols across the Joint Operations Area to safeguard commuters, schools, places of worship, and other critical infrastructure as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security across Plateau State.
