Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE has thrown open one of the most consequential capital market transactions in Africa’s history, launching an Initial Public Offering (IPO) that invites Nigerians and Africans at large to take direct ownership stakes in the continent’s largest refinery.
The offer, which opened on Monday, September 14, 2026, comprises 4.1 billion new ordinary shares priced at N525 apiece, with a minimum subscription pegged at just 10 shares, or N5,250, placing participation within reach of everyday Nigerians rather than reserving it for institutional heavyweights alone. The order book stays open until October 13, 2026, subject to the terms set out in the company’s Prospectus.
Should the offer be fully subscribed, it stands to raise approximately N2.15 trillion, a figure that would rank it among the largest equity offerings ever undertaken on the continent. Proceeds are earmarked for the refinery’s continued growth, operational expansion, and a raft of strategic investments designed to consolidate its position at the heart of Nigeria’s energy and industrial ambitions.
For Aliko Dangote, the offer carries weight beyond its headline numbers. He described the IPO as more than a capital-raising exercise, framing it instead as an act of democratising ownership. Investors, he said, were being invited to join as partners in building a globally competitive enterprise that will continue to shape the future of energy, manufacturing, and economic development across Africa.
That sentiment was echoed at the Nigerian Exchange Group, where chief executive Temi Popoola called the listing an important moment for the country’s capital market, one that underscores the urgency of broadening ownership and widening access to wealth-creating assets. To that end, NGX has activated more than 50 distribution channels for the offer, spanning banks, stockbrokers, and fintech platforms, in what amounts to the most expansive retail distribution push the exchange has mounted for a single offering.
The refinery has, since commencing operations, evolved into a strategic national asset in its own right. It has tightened Nigeria’s energy security, curbed the country’s dependence on imported refined products, conserved scarce foreign exchange, and repositioned Nigeria as a net exporter of petroleum products rather than a perennial importer. Its supply footprint now stretches beyond domestic shores, with premium products moving into international markets as well.
Dangote Refinery has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, sound corporate governance, and long-term value creation as the offer progresses, with subscriptions accessible through NGX Invest, designated banks, and other authorised platforms.
Trading in the shares is expected to commence on the Main Board of the Nigerian Exchange once regulatory approvals are concluded, formally admitting Africa’s largest refinery into public hands for the first time.
