A devastating tragedy has claimed the life of Nurse Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem, who worked in the VIP wing at Federal Medical Center (FMC) Abuja. The incident occurred on January 3, 2026, as she traveled home after completing her afternoon shift.
Colleagues at FMC Abuja have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their dedicated coworker. “We announce with heavy hearts the passing of our dear colleague, Nurse Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem,” said a fellow nurse speaking on condition of anonymity. “She was a brilliant and beautiful soul who dedicated herself to serving humanity until her final day, but her life was cut short by those with evil intentions. FMC Abuja nurses mourn the loss of Nr. Chinemerem profoundly.”
According to sources familiar with the situation, Nurse Chinemerem fell victim to ‘one chance’ operators—organized criminal groups that deceive unsuspecting commuters into entering vehicles for robbery and other violent crimes. “We lost her to these criminals in Abuja as she made her way home from work,” a grieving colleague told our reporter. “She finished her afternoon shift yesterday but never arrived home. Her body was discovered by the roadside this morning and has been taken to the FMC Jabi mortuary.”
The tragic death has shaken the nursing community across Abuja and neighboring areas, drawing attention to the increasing security risks facing healthcare professionals during their daily commutes. Fellow Nurses Africa is urging authorities to strengthen action against such criminal operations to safeguard essential workers like Nurse Chinemerem, who devoted herself to caring for patients.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. Further information will be shared as it becomes available. Our condolences go out to her family, friends, and colleagues during this painful period.
