Lagos State has suffered yet another loss in its local government system, with the death of Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA). Mrs. Adebimpe reportedly passed away late Monday, September 29, 2025, after a brief illness.
Until her demise, she was the Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State. Council Managers function as administrative heads and accounting officers for the 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs across the state, also referred to as Heads of Administration (HoA).
“With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing away of our dear Chairman, Mrs Adebimpe Akintola, this afternoon. Monday, 29th September, 2025. She was the Council Manager, Coker/Aguda LCDA, until her death,” the Forum of Council Managers wrote via a press statement, confirming the sad news.
The Forum further noted that the late Mrs Adebimpe Akinola would be buried according to Islamic rites on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
The Janazah Prayer is set to hold at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after Zuhr Prayer at 1:00 PM, followed by burial at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara, by 2:00 PM.
Mrs Akinola’s passing marks the 5th death of a female council official in Lagos State within two months, sparking major unrest in political and public circles.
The strange deaths started on August 13, 2025, when Oluwakemi Rufai, elected Councillor for Ward C in Ibeju Lekki Local Government, died just 2 weeks after her inauguration. 5 days later, on August 18, another councillor, Zainab Shotayo of Ward C in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, also died.
On the 20th of September, 2025, Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, lost her life, followed by the passing of Councillor Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan of Ward F, Somolu Local Government, the next day, September 21.
The repeated deaths among female council officials is a mystery that remains unsolved as of the time of this report, and we can only hope there won’t be more bad news in the near future.
