A new dawn has settled over the ancient, rolling hills of Idotun in Remo, Ogun State. The air is thick with anticipation and the proud weight of history, as the community celebrates the emergence of its new traditional ruler, Barr. (Prince) Adeyemi Ibikunle Opeaye.
Nestled within the Ikenne Local Government, Idotun is a town steeped in the rich tapestry of Yoruba history and the Remo heritage. It is a community where timeless traditions breathe alongside modern life, and where the selection of an Oludotun is a profound event that touches every heart and home.
Prince Opeaye’s selection is more than an administrative event; it is a historic moment for Idotun. Chosen from the Oruwo Ruling House, his journey to the throne began with a joyful public presentation on December 29th, 2025, witnessed by the Chairman of Ikenne Local Government and a gathering of beaming community elders, family, and friends. The following day, the formal heartbeat of tradition confirmed it, as the Oludotun Afobaje-in-Council presented him with his certificate of ratification.
True to the graceful protocols that have guided Remoland for generations, the Oludotun-Elect embarked on a series of humble visits. On January 7th, 2026, he sought the royal blessings of His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the revered Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland—a moment facilitated by fellow monarchs, the Onirolu of Irolu and the Alara of Ilara. In a blend of custom and contemporary governance, he also paid a visit to the Attorney-General of Ogun State, Mr. Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), in Abeokuta on January 8th.
Now, Prince Adeyemi Opeaye has stepped into a sacred phase of preparation. He has entered the Ipebi, the traditional period of seclusion, where he will reflect and prepare his spirit for the weighty responsibility ahead. He is set to reign as Oruwo III, a name that carries the legacy of his forebears.
To guide the coming celebration, a coronation committee of eleven dedicated sons and daughters of Idotun has been formed. They are already weaving together the plans for the festivities that will install their new king. While the exact date of the coronation is still wrapped in the quiet of the Ipebi, the entire town waits with joyful hearts, ready to usher in the reign of Oruwo III with drumbeats, dance, and united hope for the future of their beloved Idotun.
