The Chief Executive Officer of music streaming giant Spotify, Daniel Ek, has said that AI should not be viewed as a threat to the music industry.

He recently shared that AI will not replace artists, instead, it’ll boost creativity in the music sector.

Speaking at an Open House event at Spotify’s headquarters in Stockholm, Daniel stated that the increasing concerns surrounding the use of Artificial intelligence in music production are exaggerated.

Daniel believes that AI will actually encourage more people to create music in the future, and he is mostly optimistic about the new era of creativity the music industry is about to step into.

“I’m mostly optimistic and mostly very excited because we’re just at the beginning of understanding this future of creativity that we’re entering,” he said.

According to him, Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter recently accused Spotify of saving money by tasking a handful of producers to make thousands of songs under fake AI profiles to push to playlists, and he can confirm that it is very far from the truth.

He reiterated that the music streaming company will keep wanting real humans to make it big as artists and creators, despite appreciating the creative development AI has to offer music.

Daniel noted that even though there are clear risks involved with anything tech-related, he appreciates how the level of creativity will keep increasing with the emergence of artificial intelligence.

He concluded by saying that the barriers for creation will decrease massively as more people begin to fully explore what AI is adding to the music industry.

“We want real humans to make it as artists and creators, but what is creativity in the future with AI? I don’t know. What is music?

Now, any one of us can probably create a beat in five or 10 minutes.

The tools that we now have in our availability are just staggering.

Of course there are very scary potential applications for AI, but the more interesting thing for me is that the amount of creativity that creative people will have available at their fingertips is going to be insane.

The barriers for creation are becoming lower and lower. More and more people will create,” he added.
