The Akwa Ibom State Government has dismissed a viral online story as a malicious fabrication, warning the public against a “deep fake” aimed at damaging the administration’s reputation.
The fake report falsely claims that Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi sponsored a bill to criminalize affairs with married men, supposedly scheduled for passage in the State House of Assembly.
In a statement from the Office of the Governor, the government clarified: “This narrative is a complete fiction and a dangerous deep fake. No such bill exists before the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, nor has the Deputy Governor’s office sponsored any legislation of this nature. This is a malicious creation by individuals seeking to undermine Governor Umo Eno and his Deputy, and to distract from genuine governance work.”
The statement stressed that Governor Eno’s administration remains focused on the ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes economic development, infrastructure, and improving citizens’ quality of life.
“The Governor’s attention is directed toward prosperity, security, and development. Marital legislation has no place in this serious agenda. We will not be distracted by these cowardly attempts at misinformation,” the statement added.
The public is advised to ignore the false report and rely only on official government channels for accurate information. Security agencies have been notified to trace the source of the fraudulent publication.
