The lawmaker representing Awka North/South federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Prof. Oby Orogbu, has said that she has empowered over 200 households in her constituency within her fist six months in office.
Orogbu added that she joined active politics to liberate the vulnerable people, especially the women in Anambra State.
The lawmaker stated this during the festival of songs of nine lessons and carol, tagged, ‘Awka North/South Unity Carol of Nine Lessons,’ held in Awka, the state capital.
Addressing supporters from Awka North/South Local Government Areas, Orogbu, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility, said the empowerment was part of her responsibilities to liberate the people of Awka North and South from hunger and other challenges in the society.
She said, “My interest in joining politics is to assist my sister, Senator Uche Ekwunufe, to liberate our people from unwanted hunger and other challenges in the society.
“Within my six months in office, I have helped over 200 households in my constituency. As it stands now, I have submitted 2,000 names of people from the constituency that would be receiving N25,000 monthly stipends each from the Federal Government Cash Transfer programme.
“The beneficiaries cut across political, ethnic and religious affiliations -Yorubas, Hausas, Calabaris and members of other political parties residing within the constituency are part of the gesture.”
She also appealed to the Labour Party supporters to commence mobilisation of members in their various wards ahead of the 2025 governorship election in the state.
She admonished, “The essence of Christmas is God’s demonstration of infinite love for mankind. God is with everyone who is living according to divine principles.”
The service was also attended by the Ssnator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Victor Umeh, Valentine Ozigbo, the lawmaker representing Awka South state constituency 1 in the state House of Assembly, Henry Mbachu, among others.
