Anthony Joshua fought back from two early knockdowns to defeat Kristian Prenga in the second round of their heavyweight contest on Sunday, securing the 30th victory of his professional career. However, the performance has reignited discussions about whether the former unified world heavyweight champion is nearing the end of his time at the highest level.
Although Joshua emerged victorious, his display raised concerns about his ability to compete against the elite fighters currently dominating the heavyweight division.
The British boxer struggled in the opening round, appearing cautious and frequently resorting to clinching after being put under pressure by Prenga. While he recovered impressively to stop his opponent in the second round, observers noted that his trademark speed, explosiveness, and confidence were not as evident as in previous years.
Recent heavyweight contests have highlighted the demanding standards of the division. Daniel Dubois’ gruelling battle with Fabio Wardley and Moses Itauma’s convincing performance against Jermaine Franklin showcased the combination of power, endurance, technical skill, and resilience now expected at the top level.
