The Court of Appeal has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention held in Ibadan, delivering a legal setback to the faction of the party led by Mr Turaki.
In a unanimous judgment delivered by a three-member panel, the appellate court dismissed the appeals filed by Mr Turaki and members of his faction within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The appellants had approached the court to challenge earlier decisions questioning the legality of the Ibadan convention. However, the court held that their appeals lacked merit and therefore could not stand.
The panel consequently upheld the earlier ruling that invalidated the convention, effectively nullifying decisions and outcomes that emerged from the gathering.
In addition to dismissing the appeals, the court also ordered the appellants, including Mr Turaki and other NWC members aligned with his faction, to jointly pay the sum of N2 million as costs.
The ruling is expected to further shape the internal leadership dispute within the PDP, as party stakeholders continue to battle over the legitimacy of structures and decisions arising from the controversial Ibadan convention.
