Aviation unions have disrupted domestic flight operations in Lagos and Abuja, leaving scores of passengers stranded at major airports.
The industrial action affected activities at the domestic terminals of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, as union members moved to enforce their demands.
Passengers who arrived at the airports for scheduled flights were reportedly met with disruptions, with some unable to access terminal facilities or board their flights.
The action has also affected airlines and other businesses operating within the airports, raising concerns over the economic impact of the disruption.
The aviation workers’ unions have, in previous industrial actions, cited unresolved welfare issues, implementation of workers’ conditions of service and other employment-related demands as reasons for withdrawing their services.
The development has left travellers frustrated, with many forced to wait for updates from their airlines while others faced delays or cancellations.
Air travellers have consequently been advised to confirm the status of their flights with their respective airlines before proceeding to the airports.
The latest disruption comes amid growing tensions between aviation workers and the authorities over outstanding labour-related issues.
