The Bayelsa State Government has announced a work-free day and directed the closure of markets in preparation for the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The announcement was made on Thursday in Yenagoa by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai. She stated that the state is fully prepared to receive the President, describing him as the nation’s leader and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
According to her, the public holiday, scheduled for Friday, April 10, 2026, is intended to allow workers and residents to actively participate in activities lined up for the one-day official visit.
During his visit, President Tinubu is expected to inaugurate several major projects, including a state-owned gas turbine at Opolo-Elebele, a 60-kilometre dual carriageway stretching from Onopa to the LNG axis, and a 630-metre bridge connecting Angiama to Oporoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
Residents, particularly traders, have been urged to comply with the directive and come out in large numbers to welcome the President. The government noted that the measures are aimed at ensuring a smooth and successful visit.
