Lagos police commissioner Tijani Fatai has confirmed that the command is investigating how a parcel containing live ammunition reached the residence of Olusegun Alebiosu, managing director and chief executive officer of First Bank Nigeria.
Fatai disclosed at a press briefing on Tuesday that Alebiosu reported the incident to police on May 7, 2026, after his security guard received a parcel at his Lagos home. Two rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition turned up inside when the parcel was opened, a discovery the commissioner said triggered immediate suspicion.
“Presently, I can confirm to you that the matter is still under investigation. It is a serious case. The investigation needs to be more thorough,” Fatai said.
No suspect has been arrested. Fatai noted that Alebiosu has named individuals he suspects are behind the delivery, but stressed this remains the bank chief’s personal suspicion rather than a police finding. “We are still working on it,” he said.
The commissioner made the disclosure in response to questions about the parcel during the briefing, where he also gave an update on other operations by the command. Officers arrested several crime suspects in recent sweeps and recovered 14 firearms, four live cartridges, 51 mobile phones, a motorcycle, 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms, and vandalised electrical cables.
