Nigerian-born businessman Simon Guobadia, known for his marriage to American reality TV star Porsha Williams, has been detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The US Department of Homeland Security records confirm that the 60-year-old is being held at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia.
Mr Guobadia, who first arrived in the United States in 1982, overstayed his visa and was issued a deportation order in 1985. In subsequent years, he faced multiple arrests for financial crimes, including bank and credit card fraud.
Deported to Nigeria in 1992, he returned illegally a month later. Attempts to secure US citizenship in 2016 were denied due to his prior immigration violations.
His detention comes amid intensified deportation efforts under President Donald Trump. Guobadia’s appeals to legalise his status have been unsuccessful over the years.
The businessman’s legal troubles compound an ongoing divorce battle with Williams. The couple, who wed in November 2022, separated in February 2024 after 15 months of marriage.
In recent court rulings, Williams was granted temporary sole possession of their marital home and full rights to film content on the property.
Reacting to Guobadia’s detention, Williams, 43, shared her thoughts on Instagram: “It’s disheartening to see my estranged husband make choices that have led to this outcome. At this moment, my priority is moving forward with my family. 🙏🏾”
Guobadia has faced challenges with U.S. immigration enforcement throughout his life, despite celebrating his 42 years in America in February 2024, writing on Instagram: “Happy Tuesday to all who ever overcame and persevered in life. You are winning👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾 #42yearsLivinginAmerica.”
His arrest is the latest in a series of personal and legal setbacks. He was previously married three times, including to former Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Falynn Guobadia. Their marriage ended in July 2021, shortly before his engagement to Williams.
