A new Nollywood film produced by popular actress Ini Edo, with the title, “A Very Dirty Christmas, has been condemned by The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, as offensive and disrespectful to the Christian faith.
CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh expressed disappointment that the title received approval for public exhibition during the Christmas season, demanding an immediate review and public apology.
The Christian body stated that linking the sacred celebration with “dirty” diminishes its spiritual meaning and reduces a solemn religious observance to crude sensationalism. Christmas represents purity, peace, love, and redemption.
“A Very Dirty Christmas,” produced by Ini Edo and directed by Akay Mason, premiered on December 16, 2025. The film features Eucharia Anunobi Ekwu, Elvina Ibru, and Wunmi Toriola, depicting a Christmas family reunion disrupted by secrets and trauma.
While respecting creative freedom, CAN emphasized that artistic expression requires responsibility and religious sensitivity in Nigeria’s diverse society.
The association questioned the National Film and Video Censors Board’s approval process and specifically urged producer Ini Edo to address Christian community concerns and treat sacred seasons with appropriate dignity.
