Nigerian content creator Carter Efe made history on Twitch after hosting a livestream with Afrobeats superstar Davido that attracted approximately 83,000 concurrent viewers, the highest ever recorded for a broadcast originating from Africa. The groundbreaking session also saw Efe surpass 20,000 subscribers, making him the first African streamer to reach this milestone on the platform.
The star-studded broadcast brought together several prominent personalities, with Nigerian football sensation Victor Osimhen and Davido’s wife Chioma joining the conversation at the artist’s invitation. The event quickly became a trending topic across various social media platforms, generating widespread discussion and engagement.
During the stream, Davido reflected on the nature of friendship and public perception, drawing parallels between relationships in his circle. “I’ve been seeing the relationship between you and Kolu. It’s just as how people laugh at me and Israel… that’s one of my best friends,” the singer remarked.
The broadcast wasn’t without drama. Fellow content creator Enzo made an unexpected appearance and provocatively challenged Carter Efe to an impromptu boxing match, framing it as a test of his allegiance to Davido’s fanbase.
Carter Efe initially rose to prominence through viral comedy sketches before expanding into music. His 2022 single ‘Machala’ achieved significant chart success, though the track later became the subject of a public ownership dispute that drew considerable attention in Nigerian entertainment circles.
