The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has appointed Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Aliyu Giwa as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), replacing Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin.
Giwa’s appointment comes as part of ongoing restructuring within the police leadership following the recent inauguration of Olatunji Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police. Benjamin Hundeyin was relieved of his duties as the Force spokesman barely six months after assuming the position.
Before his new role, Giwa served as a cybersecurity specialist at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, a position he had held since February 2025. He also previously worked as the Assistant Force Public Relations Officer at the Police Public Relations Department Annex in Obalende, Lagos, between February 2017 and March 2022.
Police sources described the 40-year-old officer as an experienced communicator with strong expertise in digital security and media engagement, qualities considered vital for modern policing communication.
Giwa’s emergence follows the removal of Hundeyin as part of leadership adjustments within the force after the appointment of the new police chief. Although no official reason was given for Hundeyin’s redeployment, insiders say such changes are common when a new Inspector-General assumes office.
Hundeyin, who was appointed Force PRO in September 2025, previously served as the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command and gained prominence for his active engagement with the public through digital platforms and social media.
His tenure as Force PRO focused on strengthening the image of the Nigeria Police and improving communication between the force and the public.
With his appointment, Giwa is expected to oversee media relations and public communication for the Nigeria Police Force, while also advancing efforts to strengthen transparency and engagement with citizens.
