Tottenham captain Son Heung-min has announced that he will be leaving the club this summer.
He recently revealed that it was a very difficult decision for him to make.
Speaking at a news conference in Seoul, Son shared that he had a conversation with the club, and Tottenham is in full support of his decision to move on.
According to him, he believes now is the right time to move on, so he hopes everyone will respect and understand his readiness to seek a new challenge.
“It was one of the toughest decisions I ever made. But I think it’s the right time to make this decision. I hope that everybody understands my decision and that everyone respects that.
I came to North London as a kid, 23 years old, very young age, a young boy came to London who even didn’t speak English and leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment,” he said.
The Korean international further noted that winning the Europa League made him feel like he had achieved everything at Spurs.
He concluded by saying that the next step is to find a new environment to continue his football journey.
“Winning the Europa League made me feel I had achieved everything I could here. I need a new environment for a fresh challenge,” he added.
Sources have said that LAFC is interested in signing Son, who has a deal with the Spurs until 2026.
Asked in Korean about his future playing plans, he replied: “I don’t think I have an answer yet.”
