Veteran broadcaster, Derek Rae, has said Harry Kane waiting so long to win his first trophy as a footballer is a real pity.
Speaking recently during an interview with ESPN, Derek hailed the England striker for his terrific footballing ability and for being a good guy.
According to him, everyone at Bayern Munich would testify that Kane’s addition went a long way towards lifting the club’s dressing room after their underwhelming Bundesliga adventure last season.
Derek believes Kane being in the wrong place for so long is the reason he had to wait till now to lift his first trophy, so it is a good thing that he finally left his comfort zone to win the Bundesliga title.
“I think anybody with a generosity of spirit would feel that way. He is a terrific footballer and a good guy, and I think that’s maybe an overlooked aspect of it. Ask anybody at Bayern about Harry Kane and they’ll tell you what a great person he has been and what an addition he’s been to the Bayern dressing room.
The fact that he’s had to wait so long is a real pity, a real shame, because we know what a great player he is and what a team guy he is. But he’s been in the wrong place, sadly, from the point of view of actually winning trophies.
When I look at Harry Kane, if anything, I would say I underestimated just how good he is. I’m not saying I didn’t think he was good, but, since coming to Bayern, I think I’ve seen an extra string to his bow,” he said.
Derek said that he also respects Kane for how humble he is on and off the pitch, and even if top strikers are known for their selfishness and egos, Harry is clearly different.
The veteran broadcaster concluded by saying that despite all of the qualities Kane possesses to make him a great player, he also prefers to bring his teammates into it.
“And I’ve seen the way he is appreciated, but doesn’t make it about himself. To be a top striker, there’s an element of egomania where you have to be selfish, and he has some of those qualities, but he brings other players into it,” he added.
